CrowdDirector enables content providers the ability to configure and manage a multi-CDN environment. The system effectively acts as a virtual load balancer—providing load balancing capabilities across multiple CDNs, web servers, origins, elastic clouds (or anything attached to the Internet).

Many content providers utilize cloud storage as a supplemental distribution mechanism to CDNs, with customized load balancing and distribution schemes. CrowdDirector integrates the use of cloud services into the overall delivery solution.

CrowdDirector uses a rules-based engine. Rules are built from a multitude of parameters such as time, location, networks (ASNs), content types, CDN performance, traffic capacities, pricing, and more. Once configured, the engine assures content requests are directed to the appropriate CDN or content hosting location.
